Qiu joined the Shanghai Museum in 1972, where she trained in the conservation of Chinese paintings and calligraphy. Since 1988 she has been employed at the British Museum. She is a recognised expert in her field and is contributing to the ongoing training and development of conservators in the traditional craft of Chinese scroll mounting.
